Hail storms are costly for Colorado Springs residents

8/5/2019 (Permalink)

Call the professionals at SERVPRO of Northern Colorado Springs / Tri-Lakes if you experience hail damage at your home.

Hail storms are proving to be a costly issue for Colorado residents. In 2018, the Colorado Springs area has had 334 reports of on the ground hail according to the website Interactive Hail Maps. The site uses trained spotters to compile data across the state. Colorado has been under severe weather warnings 108 times during the past 12 months; Doppler radar has detected hail at or near Colorado Springs on 126 occasions, including 18 in the past year.

During the late spring and summer months hail typically forms in the storms that come off the mountains and into the foothills. Hail forms when water circulating in that system gets pushed to the freezing level. The large frozen chunks of water can range from pea size to baseball size and cause serious damage to your yard, car, and home.

Hail can damage windows and allow water to enter your home from outside. It can also cause roof damage which can lead to leaks along ceilings. SERVPRO’s flood damage experts are typically inundated with calls related to homes and properties during and immediately following a storm.  State Farm insurance reportedly paid a total of 598 million dollars in hail damage claims in Colorado alone during 2018 on home and auto claims. The insurance company rated Colorado at the top of its top 10 states for hail damage for 2018.

As soon as a SERVPRO crew arrives at your home, we inspect your property and give you information about the scope of the work involved.  We work to temporarily seal any holes in the home caused by the storm so that no more moisture can get in and the restoration process begins. During the mitigation process, SERVPRO team members first extract all of the water possible from your home. Next we will start the process of rapid drying, to remove the water from walls and other surfaces. This process can reduce damage and prevent mold from growing.

If you experience hail damage and flooding call SERVPRO of Northern Colorado Springs / Tri-Lakes at (719) 434-4626 as soon as it happens. Our trained team will work to make it “Like it never even happened.”
