Restoring Flood Damage Effects in Colorado Springs

12/11/2017 (Permalink)

Flooding can be devastating. But our SERVPRO technicians follow a proven method to dry out your property after an event and help prevent mold.

Team SERVPRO is Standing By to Remove Floodwaters From Your Property

Removing floodwater from a Colorado Springs home requires a quick response. Within hours or even minutes, the more delicate property can be rendered worthless. In just a day, damage to carpets might be permanent.
To remove Colorado Springs flood damage promptly, SERVPRO keeps a 24-hour response team on-call seven days a week, including all major holidays. To ensure our technicians arrive ready to work, we created a set of procedures designed to reduce the amount of damage while still keeping the restoration costs to our customers reasonable.
With every task, safety for our customers and employees comes first. If there is any concern that the floodwater got into any outlets, we turn off power and post warnings to prevent anyone from turning it back on until we inspect the home.
Now, our restoration crew removes any property that could leave a stain on floors or carpets. That includes furniture and kitchen appliances, as well as area rugs and drapes. They also remove any items that could be damaged as we perform other restoration tasks.
Next, technicians remove standing water. If the level is over two inches in depth, we start with commercial grade pumps. For water just covering the surface and a little more, we go directly to water extractions wands. If the power is interrupted, we also bring one of the generators we keep on-hand for continuous electrical support.
Our focus now is on the carpets. We reduce the power on the extractors to draw out the water without damaging the nape. With the weight of the water removed, SERVPRO technicians lift the carpet to remove and dispose of the pad underneath. Carpet pads disintegrate quickly and are cheaper to replace than to attempt to dry them out.
With the carpet out of the way, we use squeegees to remove any remaining water. Once the floor is dry, we lay down a new pad and check the carpet for dampness. If there is still moisture, we set up an air mover at one end of the room to blow warm, dry air under the carpet as a fan at the other end draws out the damp cooler air before we stretch it back in place.
Returning any home to a safe, dry condition takes time, training, and the right tools for the job. At SERVPRO of Northern Colorado Springs / Tri-Lakes, our office has restored homes for almost thirty years. If you are dealing with current or past flood issues, call us today at (719) 434-4626. We are here for you.
