The Flood Damage Remediation Process in Colorado Springs

7/30/2017 (Permalink)

Your dishwasher can flood your home with soapy, dirty water in an instant. Keep SERVPRO's number on hand should that ever happen.

SERVPRO Technicians Have the Experience of Knowing How to Time the Drying Out Process for Best Restoration Results After Water Damage in the Home

Most flooding in a home comes from domestic sources. A leaky pipe can ruin a bathroom carpet over time, but it is the appliances in a home that can cover 1500 square feet in just a few hours. It can be a cracked water heater or a split hose on a washing machine just off the kitchen. If it happens to a family on vacation, this can mean an expensive loss by the time they return.

Pumping out water from a broken dishwasher or a rusted-out pipe is only the start of restoring a Colorado Springs home from the effects of flood damage. We also need to draw moisture from floors and walls; sometimes even ceilings when the flooding comes from a cracked pipe in the basement that sprayed over the entire room. SERVPRO knows that if we can remove standing water quickly enough using pumps and extraction wands, it can save hundreds of dollars.

Technicians use air movers to create what is known as a floating carpet. We carefully pull up opposite corners or edges, making sure these points are at the entrances and exits to the outside or other rooms of the house. Technicians lift just enough carpet to insert the air mover and provide an exit vent. If they lift too much, the carpet stretches as it dries and then it does not tack back down correctly, leaving visible waves in the now dry carpet.

We pair air movers with dehumidifiers for walls and ceilings that have absorbed a significant amount of water. Normally an air mover does the job by itself, but this combination of tools allows us to restore items like drywall that would crumble in our hands if we tried to remove it. Technicians set up the dehumidifier to blow warm air directly into the intake of the air mover. It increases the temperature of the air that blows across an affected surface, drying it faster. To prevent over-drying, we use moisture content meters to measure the air and material levels and stop at a normal level.

SERVPRO of Northern Colorado Springs / Tri-Lakes is committed to restoring your home to its pre-flood condition. If you have a plumbing issue and need our help, call us today at (719) 434-4626.
