How Do I Keep my Building Secure After a Fire?

10/5/2022 (Permalink)

Board up windows and doors of a commercial building A board-up is a temporary covering for a broken window or door.

When a fire happens, you want to get the building boarded up as soon as possible. This helps prevent looting and protects your property from further damage. But how do you know what type of boarding-up is best for your situation?

What is a Board-up?

A board-up is a temporary covering for a broken window or door. It's usually made of plywood or other wood products, and it's used to keep intruders out and preserve the crime scene. A board-up isn't meant to be a permanent repair; it serves as a sort of security fence until you can get your building repaired.

Boarding Up After a Fire

To secure a building after a fire, you'll need to place board-ups on the windows. These are usually temporary. They'll be removed when you repair the damage and reoccupy your building.

In addition to securing your property after a fire, board-ups are also used to keep looters out of your business. After any major disaster such as Hurricane Katrina or 9/11 in New York City, many people attempted to break into abandoned buildings with the hope of finding valuables inside—and some were successful! Boarding up offers one way for owners looking for protection against theft after an event like this happens within their communities.

Are Board-ups Covered by Insurance?

If your building is covered by insurance, the cost of covering up windows and doors may be covered. If your building is not covered by insurance, it may still be possible to have some or all of these costs reimbursed through a claim. This is usually done if the fire was caused by an accident that could have been prevented and resulted in significant damage to your home or property.

Insurance companies will not generally pay for board-ups after a certain amount of time has passed since the fire occurred (usually three months). This means that you must submit any requests for reimbursement within this time period. If you want to make sure that everything goes smoothly with your claim, hire an experienced professional who knows how insurance companies operate so they can help guide you through each step of the process as efficiently as possible

What Is Involved in a Board-up?

Board up all the openings in your building with a wood frame to secure them from the outside. It's important that you board up your door as well, so no one can get in or out of your building by going through it. Remove all broken glass and other debris from the building before boarding it up.

If you have a garage, make sure that its doors are also secure with a wooden frame to hold them shut.

If you don't know what to do with your damaged property, remember that it is essential to protect the scene from tampering by looters or vandals. After all, the purpose of boarding up is to prevent people from entering your property and stealing items belonging to you or others who may have been in the building at the time of the fire. If you're concerned about protecting your neighborhood's property values as well as preventing further damage to your own building, consider hiring someone who has experience in securing crime scenes.

We hope this post has helped you understand the basics of boarding up after a fire. If you have any questions, please contact us at our 24-hour hotline.

Immediate Attention
Disaster can strike at any time, but you should not delay the recovery process. Reputable restoration services ensure their teams of experts arrive at the scene of a commercial fire to offer assistance at any time of day or night.

A Thorough and Formal Property Inspection
Before restoration teams can begin fire, mold, soot and smoke cleanup, they should thoroughly inspect each aspect of your physical property to determine the extent of the damage. After completing this step, you should receive a formal written assessment discussing the findings with a work recommendation.

Assistance With Your Insurance Provider
A fire restoration company can help you document and convey evidence your insurance provider needs to process your claim, including:

  • Photographic evidence
  • Official fire department reports
  • Witness statements

Mold Mediation
The consequences of a fire at your business extend beyond damage from flames. For example, firefighters at the scene must use hoses that douse the fire with large volumes of water, soaking your business's walls, ceilings, furnishings, electronics, paper records and other property. In addition, a fire damage restoration company should undertake urgent drying measures to prevent mold spores from developing and spreading through your space.

Property Security
Your business remains vulnerable to theft, vandalism and trespassing until you reoccupy it. First, however, you should look for a restoration company that can erect security fencing to prevent further damage that your insurance provider will not cover.

Cleaning and Restoration
A critical aspect of fire restoration involves soot and smoke cleanup. Experienced restoration crews employ specialized methods and treatments to remove lingering smoke odors and soot particles that attach to porous surfaces and fibers.
Choose a fire damage restoration service capable of providing the vital assistance you need to continue operating your business in Colorado Springs

Landlord Versus Tenant Flood Responsibilities

Landlord Versus Tenant Flood Responsibilities

Flooding in Colorado Springs, CO, can be stressful and confusing. Once you and your family are safe, it is time to think about repairing and restoring your home or business. Homeowners, business owners and renters alike now have to navigate the waters of insurance coverage. For homeowners, the process is likely to clear. For landlords and tenants, however, it may be a bit more complicated. What does commercial property insurance cover? What does renter’s insurance cover?

Landlord Responsibilities

The first step as a landlord is to know your insurance coverage. Flood insurance is not typically part of general property insurance. Talk to your agent about your specific policy. Landlords are responsible for the following in the case of a flood:

• Whether insurance covers flooding or not, you as the property owner are still responsible for returning the dwelling to a safe, livable situation for your tenants. This must be done in a reasonably timely manner, so contact a water restoration specialist as soon as possible to avoid secondary damage from occurring.
• Damages to the building are covered by the landlord, including all appliances that were not purchased and installed by the tenants. Flooring, drywall, electrical and other structures are under the property owner’s purview as well.

Tenant Responsibilities

The landlord is not responsible for all damage, so as the tenant it is important to obtain renter’s insurance and know what is covered. As with landlords, flood coverage is not typically included in basic insurance, so talk to your agent about the details. Tenants should know the following information:

• As a renter, your personal belongings are covered under your insurance.
• Relocation, if the apartment or dwelling is unlivable, is usually covered by your insurance and rent does not need to be paid during that time. You may choose to discontinue the lease if the damage is severe.

Whether you are the landlord or tenant, obtain the appropriate insurance coverage. Understand what your property or renter’s insurance covers, and what your responsibilities are in the case of a flood in Colorado Springs, CO.

Addressing Smoke and Soot Damage After a Fire

Severe fire damage to a building in Colorado Springs, CO.

Ways To Handle Soot And Smoke Damage

After a fire, smoke damage at your building in Colorado Springs, CO, can be widespread, and you may need to consult with an experienced fire restoration service to handle the clean-up. Experts who know how to handle smoke and soot damage use various methods to clean and repair parts of your building's interior and the property inside it.

Odor Removal
Smoke from a fire can quickly spread through your building's interior, permeate the air and compromise porous surfaces, including:

  • Furniture
  • Upholstery
  • Clothing
  • Flooring
  • Walls

Fire damage is not always visible; it can lead to lingering unpleasant odors that are difficult to remove. Neutralizing the odor that smoke leaves behind is one of the most vital but challenging aspects of the clean-up process following a fire. Ozone odor removal is one of the most effective ways to eliminate the pungent scent from smoke damage. It involves introducing ozone molecules, or oxygen that consists of three rather than two oxygen atoms, into the environment. The third atom becomes attracted to the offensive odor molecule and neutralizes it, leaving behind two-atom, breathable oxygen molecules.

Stain Removal
Following a fire, incomplete combustion of burning objects results in microscopic, toxic soot particles. It is vital to know how to clean surfaces that contain soot to avoid spreading it deeper into an object and producing permanent stains. The first step involves determining the type of soot requiring removal.
Dry soot is odorless and forms when natural substances burn. A dry vacuum with a HEPA filter can remove dry soot effectively, usually without leaving permanent stains. Wet and oily soot damage from burning plastic, rubber and kitchen products are more complex to manage and require great care when handling. It may be impossible to salvage affected objects.
Smoke damage due to a fire at your building or a nearby structure can have serious consequences. Professional fire restoration services in Colorado Springs, CO, can undertake soot and smoke cleaning measures to minimize the disruption to your operations.

This Is Why You Should Never Use Bleach for Fungus Cleanup

2/16/2021 (Permalink)

Don't count on bleach when you have a mold situation.

If you've ever encountered a situation requiring fungus cleanup, you've probably heard that bleach will do the trick. Don't count on it! This advice is misguided. As a commercial business owner, you know that you can't afford to make mistakes that could hurt you financially. If a mold problem is improperly taken care of, it will only get worse (and cost more to alleviate) in the future. Read on to find out why this mold cleanup method could harm your business.

The Problem With Bleach

This chemical has been in your home, under your grandma's sink, and within janitor's closets for ages. Why won't it work for fungus cleanup? Keep in mind that bleach:

  • Can't adequately clean porous surfaces;
  • Can be dangerous when mixed with the wrong chemicals;
  • Decreases in effectiveness if old or exposed to air;
  • And can actually perpetuate a mold problem.

Why It's Bad for Mold Cleanup
For getting rid of fungus overgrowth, the aforementioned characteristics are all signs that using this method may not get to the root of the issue. Mold is often pervasive, reaching its tendrils deep down into porous surfaces. These surfaces include materials like carpet, drywall, plywood, or linens. It's likely that if you are dealing with mold overgrowth, it's beneath this type of surface that has gone through some sort of water damage.
Furthermore, the root system of the fungus may actually begin to thrive! The chemical mixture cannot reach down below the surface mold. However, the water can travel to the roots of the mold, allowing them to feed and invasively spread. This, obviously, just makes the situation worse. It will also be a moot point if you mistakenly use old, ineffective cleaner.

Do This Instead
It's best to start strongly when it comes to fungus cleanup. If you ever suspect that you need to clean up mold in your business, it's best to contact a mold remediation expert in Gleneagle, CO. Don't accidentally exacerbate the issue. Quickly taking the best course of action when you suspect mold will save your business time and money in the long run.

Can You Count On Commercial Fire Sprinklers?

1/13/2021 (Permalink)

You should arrange to have your sprinklers professionally inspected on a regular basis

Can You Count On Commercial Fire Sprinklers?

Commercial fire sprinkler systems can suppress fires and satisfy fire code requirements for structures in Tri-Lakes, CO. If the owner or manager of a property is unsure whether sprinklers are correctly positioned or uncertain whether a system will activate upon sensing high temperatures, these pointers can help property owners make more accurate assessments of the reliability of a sprinkler system.

Check the Date of the Last Inspection
Every component in a sprinkler system calls for inspection and testing on a more or less frequent basis. Gauges and mechanical devices require the most attention, while fittings and pipings can go longer between checks:

  • Inspect gauges weekly or monthly
  • Inspect and test mechanical devices quarterly
  • Inspect and test a system annually
  • Inspect the inside of piping every five years

Dry or fast-response fire suppression systems may have different requirements. Consult a sprinkler installation and maintenance service regarding the inspection and testing schedule for a particular system.

Monitor the Function of the System
Fire sprinkler system design should match facility usage. If the same space in a commercial building is used by businesses with different fire hazard levels, it may be necessary to update suppression systems.

Service a System After Activation
The activation of one or more sprinkler heads in a system may require fire sprinkler cleanup but definitely calls for service. Repairing faulty parts may be necessary for the event of an accidental discharge or broken pipe. A system that has responded to and suppressed a fire should also be checked to be ready to respond to the next hazard.
If you own or manage a commercial property inTri-Lakes, CO, you should arrange to have sprinklers professionally inspected on a regular basis. Structural fire safety systems require specialized maintenance and repairs. Regular checks and upkeep of a fire sprinkler system can provide property owners and managers with more peace of mind.

Steps To Prevent Water Damage and Care for Your Plumbing

Proactive measures to prevent frozen pipes include wrapping them with insulation

Steps To Prevent Water Damage

A water leak may be a symptom of minor or severe plumbing problems at your building in Colorado Springs, CO. Taking the following steps can prevent costly water damage or a pipe break.

Monitor Your Water Usage
Small leaks can go undetected in buildings with a complex plumbing system. If you start to notice a steady increase in your water bill despite normal usage, a plumbing leak could be the cause. It may be impossible to find the source before significant damage occurs. Consider investing in a leak detection system that incorporates the following technologies to prevent a small water leak from becoming a big one.

  • Water sensors
  • Automatic shut-off valves
  • Pressure detectors
  • Freeze alerts

Use Gentle Drain Cleaners
Avoid using commercial clog removers that rely upon acidic agents to dissolve the blockage-causing material in toilet and sink drains. These agents are too abrasive for most pipes, especially older ones. Corrosion related to repeated use of these products can cause pipes to break, creating widespread water damage. Enzyme-based products are a gentler and more sustainable choice.

Prevent Frozen Pipes
Frozen water can expand, causing excessive pressure that can cause a pipe break. Uncontrolled gushes of water can quickly fill your building's interior, soaking vital equipment and furnishings. When this happens, it is essential to contact a professional flood recovery service to begin the drying out process before mold can form. Proactive measures to prevent frozen pipes include wrapping them with insulation, maintaining a consistent temperature throughout the day and night and sealing cracks to prevent drafts.

Replace Old Pipes
Consider your building's age to determine when you should replace its pipes. Brass pipes can have a lifespan of one hundred years, whereas other materials may last only thirty years. Older pipe material can suddenly give way before a water leak warns of a problem.
Caring for your building's plumbing can prevent water damage, leading to business interruption and costly flood restoration measures.

How To Dry Out a Building After a Pipe Break

10/28/2020 (Permalink)

Water extraction on a commercial building in Gleneagle, CO

Take Measures To Fix A Broken Pipe

Bursting pipes are a leading cause of water damage. Although a broken supply line releases clean, treated water, the condition of water starts to degrade as soon as it comes into contact with building materials or contents or starts pooling in a structure. Within 24 to 48 hours of a pipe break at a building in Gleneagle, CO, the owner or manager should take measures to fix broken pipe and achieve fast drying.

Extract Standing Water
Standing water poses a wide range of structural and broader safety risks to the occupants of a building. The primary damage caused by a broken pipe is considered relatively minor, but conditions can rapidly degrade through the following categories:

  • Category One clean water
  • Category Two gray water
  • Category Three black water

A recent pipe break or other damage involving clean water only requires drying. Water from a burst pipe that traverses more than one floor of a structure is considered Category Two water damage, or gray water. Water left standing can become highly contaminated Category Three black water. Remove contaminated water as soon as possible.

Lower Humidity Levels
Elevated air moisture levels after water damage can increase the risk of secondary damage. Moisture can increase the risk of mold growth following an incidence of bursting pipes, and can also cause building materials to degrade. A dehumidifier can discourage fungus growth, rot and rust.

Generate Air Currents
Drying can be sped up by increasing airflow through the damp portion of a structure. Restoration professionals who specialize in water damage may operate industrial air movers or fans for up to several days.
A structure that has suffered damage from one or more bursting pipes can benefit from expert water damage cleanup and restoration. A fast and thorough cleaning job reduces the risk of secondary damage at a commercial building located in Gleneagle, CO.

How To Avoid Mold Spore Buildup in Your Facility

Roof leak causes mold growth in a Gleneagle, CO property

How To Avoid Mold Spore Buildup in Your Facility

Molds appear on various organic substances, including carpets, insulation, food, wood, and paper. It is thus impossible to completely remove mold spores from your commercial building. However, you need to limit the buildup of these spores in order to protect the property.
Regular carpet cleaning can reduce the amount of mold in your building. That’s because mold often grows in dark, moist areas such as the top of ceiling tiles and the back of drywall. The underside of carpeting is a common location for mold, as well.
Mold is also common in wet areas. Moisture issues that could lead to mold growth include:

  • Unvented appliances
  • Poor maintenance
  • Gutters that direct water toward the building
  • Roof leaks

Therefore, any mold prevention strategy must focus on reducing moisture. Along with carpet cleaning, the below actions can help you avoid excess mold in your facility.

Lower Humidity
Humid air is a breeding ground for mold. If possible, keep the relative humidity of your property below 50 percent.

Limit Condensation
Reducing humidity will also prevent the condensation that often leads to mold. Increasing the surface temperature can lower condensation, as well. You can do this by Improving air circulation or adding insulation to surfaces.

Fix Issues Right Away
If you do discover a leak or condensation, you cannot ignore the situation. The longer the water sticks around, the more likely it will cause mold problems. Dry the affected areas within 48 hours. Any carpet cleaning, in particular, should be thorough.
Wet foundations may also encourage mold growth. If you discover this issue during an inspection, consider adding drainage to your property.
Any mold that you do find should also be removed immediately before it spreads. To ensure the mold cleanup is done properly, you may want to hire a commercial building restoration company.
Excess mold can cause major damage to a facility in Gleneagle, CO. Follow the above steps to reduce the buildup of these spores.

3 Steps Toward Limiting Revenue Loss After Fire Damage

3 Steps Toward Limiting Revenue Loss After Fire Damage

A fire can result in costly damage and lost revenue if a business cannot resume operations until restoration is complete. Business owners may limit revenue losses during fire restoration by taking several steps such as making an interruption insurance claim or a temporary relocation in Tri-Lakes, CO.

1. Make a Business Interruption Claim
Coverage for interruptions in regular operations can offset continued expenses and lost revenue after damage to a facility makes it impossible for a business to operate. This additional coverage is not included in general commercial property policies. Calculate the amount of coverage by factoring in average operational costs and revenue for the duration of a closure, which could range from weeks to months.

2. Consider Operating In a Temporary Location
Interruption insurance only covers damage that prevents a business from operating out of a primary location if it is not possible to run the enterprise from an alternative location. A business owner might be able to sustain revenue by shifting operations to a backup location. Insurance coverage may be available to offset the costs of this strategic shift in the event of a fire or another disaster.

3. Choose a Reliable Restoration Company
A company that provides services at every stage of fire restoration from assessment to mitigation, cleanup and rebuilding can offer a more accurate estimate and schedule. Having access to an accurate timeline for restoring damage can empower business owners to make the best decisions with regard to revenue.
These three measures may help to either cover lost revenue or enable a business to continue operating during the restoration of a primary location in Tri-Lakes, CO. The faster fire, water, and smoke damage can be restored, the lower the amount of an interruption insurance claim or overall revenue loss. A leading provider of damage mitigation, cleanup and restoration services can complete a job on schedule.

Commercial Water Cleanup In Your Colorado Springs Gym

1/14/2020 (Permalink)

A water spill incident can have significant implications.

Resolving Challenges During Commercial Water Cleanup to Restore Colorado Springs Gym

When a Colorado Springs Gym flooded from a malfunction in the washrooms, there was a need to extract the water fast enough to minimize the inconveniences members would have to bear. Apart from water extraction, thorough cleanup was also necessary since flowing water transfers soils, leading to staining and many other problems.

The open layout makes commercial water cleanup in Colorado Springs gyms easier to accomplish, so we were confident we could finish the task within the day. On arrival at the loss site, we discovered a few issues that made the process more challenging than initially assessed. Most of these issues were with the carpeted floors, since gym floor carpets have a unitary backing system, and in most cases, are glued down to the floor surface.

At the gym, we had to perform the extraction fast because the adhesives used on carpets deteriorate when exposed to significant levels of moisture. Also, the rubberized backing is non-porous, limiting the airflow, which inhibits the effectiveness of vacuuming, which requires sufficient airflow. Our crew had brought several units of portable water extractors, so the combined effort of several SERVPRO technicians ensured we could cover more ground and also make the maximum necessary passes in each section.

Another potential problem was damage to the unitary backing by cleaning solvents, yet we needed to clean the area sufficiently. Our SERVPRO technicians have considerable experience dealing with such materials. Using solvent additives boosts their ability to dissolve soils so we can use a minimal amount of solvent and get good results.  We also limited solve use only on the parts of the carpet where there was visible soiling, thus limiting exposure. Thorough rinsing also helped ensure no traces of the solvents would remain on the carpet.  Setting up air movers and dehumidifiers finalized the cleaning process by removing excess moisture.

A water spill incident can have significant implications. Call SERVPRO of Northern Colorado Springs / Tri-Lakes at (719) 434-4626 to help address any issue that arises resolving the incident, “Like it never even happened.”

We Discuss The Key Factors For Drying Your Colorado Springs Commercial Property

Commercial Water Damage Teams In Colorado Springs Discuss The Key Factors For Drying

If one day you happen to start work at your office complex in Colorado Springs and you notice an indoor flooding situation, it is wise to call in a professional restoration company such as SERVPRO. Our water restoration technicians or WRTs have experience in dealing with many different types of commercial water damage situations. When our experts first arrive at your property, we find the source of the problems and take steps to stop the leak.

Once the water has stopped entering your building, our WRTs at SERVPRO start the restoration process by extracting all of the liquid H2O as possible. The next step in mitigating commercial water damage in Colorado Springs is the applied structural drying or ASD phase. Whenever implementing ASD, we set up a combination of dehumidifiers and air movers to create an environment that speeds up the natural drying and evaporation process. When drying out a structure, our WRTs use the following key factors for drying.

1. Temperature
Drying occurs best when rooms are heated to a temperature between 70 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit. The warmer the air means the more moisture it will hold meaning that more water will evaporate from wet surfaces when the temperature is higher. If indoor heating is not an option, we can bring in a portable heater to increase your indoor temperature during the drying process.

2. Amount Of Water To Be Evaporated
Since a liquid is easier to remove than gas, the more water we remove during the extraction phase, the less we will have to remove when drying. We always spend extra time extracting because it reduces the time it takes for things to dry. For example, if we are removing your carpet pad, we can extract it first before we put it into a trash bag and dispose of it.

3. Humidity
Relative humidity (RH) is the amount of moisture the air currently is holding at a given temperature. If the RH inside your home is higher than 60%, the drying process will be significantly slower. Implementing dehumidifiers is the best way to reduce your indoor RH levels.

4. Air Movement
The circulation of air is crucial during the ASD stage. Blowing out damp air and replacing it with dry air will help speed up the natural drying process.

If your office complex in Gleneagle, Monument, or Palmer Lake ever suffers from a pipe break call SERVPRO of Northern Colorado Springs / Tri-Lakes at (719) 434-4626 so that we can quickly restore your commercial property to the way it was before “Like it never even happened.”

Restoring Soot Damage In A Colorado Springs Coffee Shop

Smoke residue and soot can be two of the most devastating effects of fire loss incidents in any Colorado Springs property. When even small fire flare-ups occur in your coffee shop, you might think that the few affected areas with soot only require soap and water, and a little elbow grease, to remove. Unfortunately, addressing these situations on your own can lead to irreparable damage and staining of vital components to your business. The ideal solution is to allow these effects to get removed successfully by trained professionals like our fire loss recovery team.

Our SERVPRO professionals have extensive experience with the recovery of fire damage to Colorado Springs businesses, and we can mitigate loss and remove the presence of soot and smoke residues quickly when we arrive at your building. Our professionals understand the importance of getting your facility up and running again as fast as possible, and with an open floor plan common to coffee shops, it can be challenging to restore these effects while allowing the business to function as normal. Instead, our professionals can work around the clock to get mitigation and cleaning phases completed so that your doors can reopen as promptly as possible.

When it comes to removing soot damages from surfaces like the tabletops and counters of the main dining area of the coffee shop, traditional cleaning efforts and scrubbing can lead to staining and marring of these materials that is impossible to reverse or restore. Our SERVPRO team has advanced solutions like chemical sponges and industrial-grade cleansers and products that can safely remove this sediment entirely. This cleaning process can reduce the need for any tear out and reconstruction, reducing the time your business stays closed even more.

Soot and smoke residues can be a hazardous situation for those unprepared to combat these effects. Our SERVPRO of Northern Colorado Springs / Tri-Lakes professionals have advanced products and equipment to effectively remove these damages and get you back to business as usual. Give our experts a call anytime you need us at (719) 434-4626.

Snowmelt Can Cause Water Damage in Your Colorado Springs Warehouse

3/15/2019 (Permalink)

Winter snows bring spring thaws and lots of water being added to the area.

Commercial Water Removal Specialists in Colorado Springs Talk About Common Winter Time Issues

During the winters in the Colorado Springs area, it is common to have weather that fluctuates, and temperatures outside are continually rising and dropping.  Several scenarios could force you to conduct commercial water removal at your construction company's office and warehouse. When the weather changes so drastically during the winter, one day there could be a foot of snow, then the next day it could be 50 degrees outside. When this happens, the snow can melt quickly and force water into your office or warehouse. Once water starts to flow into your business' building from the outside, it is wise to call in a professional commercial water removal company like SERVPRO.

Even if melted snow is not an issue changing outdoor temperatures can cause your pipes to freeze and break. When pipes freeze due to outdoor temperatures dropping, calling a professional commercial water removal company in Colorado Springs such as SERVPRO can save your business and insurance company money. When the temperature drops overnight, it is possible that hundreds of gallons of water may invade your construction company's office. When an excessive amount of moisture gets into a building, it can cause several of your structural components and contents to retain moisture. If your building materials and contents inside your office and warehouse get saturated, they could get ruined if not dried out promptly.

Another thing our SERVPRO technicians pay attention to is the temperature inside your office and warehouse. If items get wet, the drying process works more efficiently at higher temperatures. If needed, we can set up heaters that raise your building's interior temperature during the drying process.

If contents inside your warehouse such as construction materials get wet, then we can take extra steps to dry out the materials individually. For example, we can un-stack materials like plywood and lay them out so that they dry more quickly than they would if they were stacked. We can also add more dehumidifiers to help pull moisture out of wet items. If your company's office or warehouse ever happens to suffer from water damage in the winter time, call SERVPRO of Northern Colorado Springs / Tri-Lakes at (719) 434-4626 24/7.

Don't Panic! We Can Restore Your Colorado Springs Retail Store Back To Pre-Damage Condition After A Water Damage Disaster!

1/30/2019 (Permalink)

When your retail store requires professional remediation, contact SERVPRO of Northern Colorado Springs / Tri-Lakes at (719) 434-4626.

Putting Colorado Springs Retail Stores Back In Business After Commercial Water Damage

Excess water can become a health and safety concern for a retail store manager prompting temporary closure and with it a loss of revenue. Damages can be widespread especially where fabrics, upholstery or carpeting is concerned. A fast, efficient service can pay dividends in the long run and be more thorough than your in-house janitorial staff. Choosing a local company with a national reputation can help get your retail store back to business.

The primary concern when dealing with commercial water damage in Colorado Springs' retail stores is mitigating loss. Water often contains bacteria that can produce unpleasant odors or even increase the risk of mold damage. As a retail store manager, your needs are likely to be thorough cleaning, drying and odor control after a water spill.

SERVPRO uses IICRC certificate holders with training in both odor control and water cleanup. For smaller stores, we can bring in portable extraction units that can dry difficult to reach areas. In some cases, water may seep into wall cavities underneath fittings or damage your subfloor. By using the latest injectidry systems, we can ensure that residual moisture is thoroughly dried preventing unpleasant odors or mold from remaining after the service is complete.

Usually, once a property is dry, odors that come with water dissipate but not in all cases. Our odor control technicians are trained to both find the source of odor as well as decide the best way to remediate it. SERVPRO can use water or chemical-based foggers to neutralize odor particles. Where there are severe odors, we can lay pellets to help remove the smell and make the damage “Like it never even happened.” For large commercial retail stores Ozone generators can be deployed although, due to their harmful nature, we use this equipment sparingly.

SERVPRO respects your business and promises to send a highly-trained team of technicians to your property immediately upon notification of loss. If you have special requirements due to the nature of the building you can communicate them directly with a project manager at any time during the service. We operate our call-lines 24-hours a day because we know that damages do not happen in business hours.

When your retail store requires professional remediation, contact SERVPRO of Northern Colorado Springs / Tri-Lakes at (719) 434-4626.

The Importance of Disaster Planning for Businesses

10/1/2018 (Permalink)

Lost Business Chart

Generally, when we talk about business disaster preparedness, most of the time we discuss the potential damage future events will have on buildings, equipment, staff, and other business assets and operations. Evaluating what may happen and the impact on future business is an exercise in risk management.  It requires a significant time commitment, but the payback in terms of benefits to the business are clear and valuable.

Perhaps even more important than identifying risks is the planning process that follows which outlines how your organization will respond to possible disruptive events.

SERVPRO offers free disaster planning assistance to business owners, property managers, and facility managers.  Our Emergency Ready Plan (ERP) contains critical information such as building plans, documentation of utility shutoffs, key personnel, and insurance information.

From Bowling Alleys to Boutiques in Colorado Springs, Businesses Rely on SERVPRO for Water Loss Help

How Colorado Businesses can Benefit from Commercial Water Cleanup Services

In the public service industry, minor hiccups can cause significant losses in revenue. Hygiene standards dictate that even relatively benign leaks or water buildup can cause a close of business until the situation is rectified. These short-term closures affect the staff and customers. They need to be resolved quickly, which is when professional restoration services come in handy.

Businesses dealing with commercial water damage in Colorado Springs rely on local services for rapid restoration works. SERVPRO can dispatch a cleanup team to your location as soon as we receive your call. Each unit is built from expertly trained technicians and led by a project manager for large-loss events who can communicate with you directly every step of the way.

Mitigating loss improves revenues in the long run not to mention reducing the likelihood of recurring problems like mold or mildew growth. Using advanced extraction wands our team can clear away moisture from even the tightest spots. For larger-scale issues with water, we can bring in truck-mounted pumps alongside industrial-grade wet/dry vacuums.

Removing water helps SERVPRO to mitigate against permanent damage to your structure and contents. Once visible signs of water are gone we can begin to guard against secondary water damage. We achieve this using a combination of rapid air-movers and dehumidifiers working in tandem. The air-movers evaporate moisture into the air while dehumidifiers remove the evaporated moisture. Doing so is crucial to prevent mold spores from finding the conditions that allow them to thrive.

Our final consideration is your indoor air-quality. After a spill or leak, odors can remain behind creating an unpleasant working environment for your staff and customers. We can employ ozone generators that use 03 gas to eliminate odor and toxins although, we may need you to vacate the property during and after use. Foggers that use non-harmful chemicals to neutralize odor particles are ideal for businesses that serve food or drinks and are readily available to SERVPRO technicians.

We are a localized restoration service that gets the job done, quickly and efficiently. Call SERVPRO of Northern Colorado Springs / Tri-Lakes today at (719) 434-4626 to book a service.

Commercial Water Removal Experts Of Colorado Springs Discuss Moisture Mitigation

6/9/2018 (Permalink)

Timing Is Everything for Rapid Water Removal to Protect Commercial Properties in Colorado Springs--SERVPRO Tip

Rapid Response, Water Extraction, and Moisture Control Are Core Aspects of SERVPRO Services for Offices and Warehouses in the Colorado Springs Area

As time goes on, items inside your Colorado Springs building such as water lines and appliances get old and malfunction. If a pipe breaks inside your company's warehouse, water can leak into the building. Excessive moisture can cause many different problems that your business must now have to handle.

Moisture can ruin the structural integrity of building materials as well as cause mildew-like odors to exist. When completing commercial water removal in Colorado Springs, measures get taken to reduce the moisture content of items within 48 hours. After the two day period, spores that naturally exist inside a building can turn into mold.
Before any restoration work begins, our SERVPRO technicians take steps to secure the work area. We inspect the damaged areas and figure out if there are any potential safety hazards present. Water can cause drywall in the ceiling to partially fall or cause electrical wiring to short out creating safety issues. Any such hazards are fixed so that your warehouse is safe for all occupants during the restoration process, including our technicians.
Once the work area is safe, our SERVPRO technicians develop a project scope that outlines how the process gets completed. When working with businesses, affecting your company's bottom line as little as possible is our number one priority. We often change how and when we complete the different procedures so that your business can stay functioning as usual throughout all of the phases of restoration, whenever possible.
The first step to reducing moisture levels inside the building is to extract as much water as possible from the structure. After any standing water and saturated materials are vacuumed with our specialized extraction equipment, rapid drying takes place. During the drying process, our SERVPRO technicians set up a combination of air movers and dehumidifiers in the affected region to speed up the natural evaporation process.
Air movers create a counterclockwise air flow that moves moisture from the surface of wet materials allowing them to continue releasing water into the air. Dehumidifiers pull water from the air and dispense it out in liquid form lowering the relative humidity inside the structure. Our goal is to achieve a maximum of 60% RH within the treated warehouse. Dehumidifiers also exhaust hot, dry air that gets used by the air movers.
Salvaging inventory and building materials inside your warehouse from replacement can save your business time and money. If you ever need help with moisture problems in your company's warehouse, call SERVPRO of Northern Colorado Springs / Tri-Lakes at (719) 434-4626 any time of the day.

A Quick Response Can Save Your Colorado Springs Business

4/2/2018 (Permalink)

Call on SERVPRO to get your doors open sooner and prevent further damage to your business.

Call SERVPRO as Soon as Possible after a Water Emergency

Of all of the pit stops that people can make as they pass through Colorado Springs, you strive to offer the kind of atmosphere and feel that makes motorists and locals choose your gas station above the other options they might have. When a water emergency strikes out of nowhere, it can have some effects on the business itself, so it is best to understand the importance of choosing professional restoration to get you back in the game more expediently.

As critical as automotive traffic and foot traffic is to your gas station, you should better understand the importance of solving any disasters that occur and fully restoring the water damage caused to your Colorado Springs business. The first consideration that you have to make is sectioning off areas of your shop area to keep people away from the water damage, or having to close your doors entirely while the restoration process is underway.

Attempting to clean substantial water emergencies up on your own, instead of choosing professional restoration like SERVPRO provides, can often lead to you waiting much longer to successfully re-open your businesses to travelers and locals that wish to use it. The primary drawback to waiting longer for your gas station to reopen is obviously the loss of profits, but it also allows for a loss of reputation and loyal customers. The longer that your establishment is not available to formerly loyal patrons, the more likely they are to start going to another similar business permanently.

Another consideration that you should make would be the employees that rely on their paychecks to support themselves or their families. The longer that you are not able to serve the public, the longer they are going without a regular paycheck.

Finally, the longer that you wait to contact SERVPRO, the more likely further damage can result. This damage could show itself in the weakening of structural components, forcing remodeling or reconstruction or could also appear as mold damage on top of the other issues you face.

You should not wait to contact SERVPRO of Northern Colorado Springs / Tri-Lakes if your business is threatened by a water emergency. The quicker that our experienced team can get to work, the faster your business can begin making money again. Give us a call today at (719) 434-4626.

Burst ceiling sprinkler line floods tech building

2/2/2018 (Permalink)

Source of loss - burst sprinkler pipe in ceiling

Many building codes require fire sprinklers to be installed in new construction - this makes sense because for the most part, fire sprinklers can greatly reduce the likelihood of a severe fire.  However, as a local technology firm found out, fire sprinklers can also be the SOURCE of a catastrophe.

Overnight while no one was in the building, a connector to a fire sprinkler in the 2nd floor ceiling of a conference room burst.  A single fire sprinkler can spray up to 24 gallons of water per minute and the leak was not discovered until the next morning!

They lost their drop ceiling in nearly 100% of the office space and when it collapsed it damaged items underneath.  With our help they were able to clean up and dry out the building in just a few days.

Water Damage to Sporting Facilities in Colorado Springs is a Challenge, but SERVPRO Can Overcome

12/24/2017 (Permalink)

Should you have a flooding or water damage event at your sporting facility, a call to SERVPRO gets you a quick response and remediation efforts.

SERVPRO Technicians Arrive Promptly to Remediate Water Damage at Your Commercial Location

All kinds of sporting facilities in Colorado Springs may need water removal once in a while after a major storm or other flooding events. Most sports are played in stadiums, courts, and other flat-bottomed facilities with wide open spaces. When these facilities are mixed with flooding, the effects can be devastating. Such large volumes of water require a concerted, industrial-strength effort to remove: an effort that SERVPRO is proud to be capable of.
Commercial water removal from Colorado Springs sporting facilities is so tricky because of how massive the operation often is. A gym, stadium, or court may be thousands of square feet even disregarding offices and other nearby facilities. When water makes its way into a space of this size, our crews are challenged to handle removal procedures quickly and efficiently without causing any further damage. Even when standing water is absent, and the volume of water remains low in an area, we must still account for a more extensive removal job due to how many materials are soaked with moisture.
However, SERVPRO is ready to handle jobs of this size, 24/7 and 365 days per year. When standing water is present in a large area, we can bring in heavy truck-mounted extractors to pump liquid and smaller debris out at an incredible pace. If a large indoor area is soaked with water, we can employ our large stock of industrial-grade air movers to set up powerful indoor currents and pick up water from all exposed and affected surfaces in the area. Finally, to combat humidity in the building, we have access to multiple forms of dehumidifiers that remove water from the air and prevent further damage to oxidation and mold growth from occurring. Through our combined machines and team efforts, we effectively combat any water damage we find in athletic buildings.
SERVPRO of Northern Colorado Springs / Tri-Lakes is a local provider of industrial strength water removal, damage mitigation, and restoration solutions. Give us a call at (719) 434-4626.

Colorado Springs Bakery Sustains Water Damage

11/16/2017 (Permalink)

Make sure that your customers don't find a new bakery while your business is closed due to water damage. Call SERVPRO for a rapid response.

Our Certified Technicians Act Fast to Dry Out Your Water Damaged Business

Many commercial spaces are located below residential rental units in Colorado Springs. When something goes wrong with the plumbing upstairs, the business owner may not know of the water and certainly has no control over it. Unexpected damage from water leaking from above is a job for a professional restoration company particularly when the business affected prepares and sells food.
An unoccupied residential unit above your business experiences a burst pipe, eventually causing commercial water damage to your Colorado Springs bakery and cafe. Because it went unnoticed until the collected moisture broke through your ceiling, a large amount of water cascaded into your retail and dining space all at once. Services needed include water removal, wall and ceiling repair, and expert drying of an antique hardwood floor. We offer a full menu of water damage restoration options to avoid the need for many contractors.
If not done already, we locate and close the water shut off to the pipe if it is still leaking when our SERVPRO team arrives. Then one of our experienced project managers devises a multi-task plan to take your business from ruined to restored. We consult with your insurance carriers and the owner of the building as we take each step, our aim is to limit your out of pocket expenses while delivering the best results.
Standing water requires pumping or high-efficiency extraction, and SERVPRO has submersible pumps and wanded commercial wet vacuums ready for work on our service vehicles. Our technicians measure moisture levels and use scanning devices to locate any residual water within walls or other recessed areas. We may choose to remove small sections of wallboard or drill strategically placed holes to release hidden water. Air movers and dehumidifiers then assume the work of drying out surfaces soaked with moisture.
Speed is crucial as we assess and begin drying the hardwood floor, its aged patina an important part of your cozy ambiance. Wood absorbs moisture quickly and the consequent swelling causes warping, crowning, cupping, or buckling if not dried quickly. SERVPRO uses a variety of techniques recommended by the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification (IICRC), the industry’s best practices developing and maintaining organization. Drying mats pull water out of both the hardwood and subfloor layers. Subfloor drying is critical, so we may position air movers under the floor from a basement space or remove and lift some boards to get access to the damp lowest layer and start drying it thoroughly. Moisture monitoring is done at regular intervals throughout the process to ensure that we meet drying goals.

Commercial Water Damage can Damage Interiors and Inventory in Garden Shops in Colorado Springs

7/3/2017 (Permalink)

Water damage in your garden center can often lead to mold forming. Contact SERVPRO before it gets out of hand.

Getting a Quick Response is Key When Dealing with Water Damage on Your Business Property

Even a small, short-lived snafu with a sprinkler system can cause extensive problems inside a garden shop. There is a reason that sprinkler heads are positionable, and when they are misdirected, water spraying out can seriously miss the mark. If water is not soaked up by thirsty plants, it has to go somewhere. Other problems can stem from undetected leaks that allow water to drip into locations that were never meant to get wet.
Businesses in Colorado Springs that discover commercial water damage in their interior structures can benefit from restorative work. Such work might include tearing out of water-stained ceiling tiles and side panels. Some building materials are much more porous than others. Display panels and pegboard shelving can become warped and unsightly, and also become breeding areas for bacteria and various molds.
During exposure to excess water, metal hooks and pegs can rust, creating safety hazards for both your customers and your employees. While this situation might seem minor, the possibility that there are many more metal fixtures than previously realized, increasing the risks when rusted, exists and should be considered. If metal that has rusted is becoming increasingly more prominent in your garden shop, you should inspect for other types of water damage. Rust is often one of the first tell-tale signs of water damage in a business or warehouse setting.
SERVPRO technicians have the skills and training that they need to find the leaks and other sources of water that is damaging your business. Finding these locations and rectifying the situation so additional water is not introduced to the area is the first step in repairing your business so it is “Like it never even happened.”
From replacing metal fixtures on doors, windows, shelving units, racks, displays, counters, and anything else, to removing and replacing stained or expanded ceiling tiles, to restoring walls and ceilings, as well as removing inventory that has been ruined by exposure to water, we can help. No job is ever too large, nor too small for us. We also contract with other service providers to make sure that all of your business's needs are met fully so that the end result is as perfect as possible.
Whenever your business has problems with water damage, call us, SERVPRO of Northern Colorado Springs / Tri-Lakes at (719) 434-4626. We answer calls 24/7 and can provide you with the answers and services your company needs.

Commercial Water Damage is a Common Problem for Hotels in Colorado Springs

5/8/2017 (Permalink)

We at SERVPRO of Northern Colorado Springs / Tri-Lakes repair and restore buildings of any size, and which have any degree of water damage.

SERVPRO Commercial Water Restoration Services Are Available for Hotels

Traveling for business or pleasure is a common activity in America, and often necessitates the use of overnight lodging. Hotels fill this need for countless people, from business executives to large families.

In hotels in the Colorado Springs area, there are many ways that commercial water damage can start. One of these is simple carelessness by guests. Towels that are still damp from showering or visiting the pool and left in spots that are porous can create smelly carpets, weak spots in floors, spotting and staining on nearby walls, and warp furniture.

Ice buckets that are mishandled can develop holes and cracks that can allow melted ice to leak onto whatever surface the bucket is placed on. Bathrooms can also be where water damage is concentrated when guests allow children to take unattended bubble baths. It might be an enjoyable time for the kids to play pirates and splash water all around, but the floor might have another reaction.

These are not the only types of incidents that can bring about water damage in your hotel. Emergency incidents can happen at any time, and at any place in your hotel, including a guest's room, the kitchen, or lobby bathrooms. Other ways can stem from structural damage that allows water from the outdoors to enter, either through non-sealing windows or cracks in exteriors walls or roof structures.

We at SERVPRO repair and restore buildings of any size, and which have any degree of water damage. Damage might be heavily concentrated in one or two areas, or spread out and affect the entire building. One situation that is very commonly dealt with is when sprinklers malfunction. The intention is to protect against fire, but mishaps can be very damaging themselves.

Knowing what you can do to protect your investment and how we will support gives great peace of mind.

Do Not Let a Burst Water Hose Disrupt Your Business in Colorado Springs

SERVPRO's Fast Action Can Save Your Business Both Time and Money

Even the tiniest of leaks can cause problems in a factory setting, but these can often go for long lengths of time undetected. When you have got a water main that is burst open, and you are losing many gallons of water, you know immediately of the problem. Keeping things from becoming worse and developing into significant water damage and increased loss of inventory should be addressed as soon as the water is shut off at the main valve.
In Colorado Springs, preventing further problems starts with commercial water removal services. Getting the water extracted as quickly as we can, we help protect your as-of-yet undamaged equipment and inventory from unnecessary contact with water. We can assess your situation with an experienced eye as soon as we arrive and then consult with you. SERVPRO Professionals can always work together as a team to help ensure that your needs are always addressed promptly, guaranteeing the mitigation of problems and loss of inventory and revenue to a minimum.
We understand that in a commercial setting, the safety of your employees is also a top priority. Because all SERVPRO employees are trained through both corporate and IICRC venues and certified, we will never have to ask one of your employees for assistance in completing a job, ensuring they will never be placed in a dangerous or compromising situation. After pumping all standing water out, we will then use hand-held and portable units to reduce the amount of moisture in your building further. Then we will begin with dehumidifiers, heaters, air blowers, and possibly air scrubbers to regain a normal humidity level reading. The RH level is crucial to preventing secondary water damage to previously unaffected areas and items.
We can clean your commercial site if needed, and also provide deodorizing techniques, as water can bring out odors that were previously nonexistent, even after the water has been completely removed. We want to make it ”Like it never even happened” so you and your company can return to your normal business operations quickly again.
When your business has had severe water problems, and you need commercial water removal, call the experts at SERVPRO of Northern Colorado Springs / Tri-Lakes, (719) 434-4626, any day of the week, and any hour of the day or night. We are always ready to respond when you need us.
